Warlords and Indians...

Jason and I woke up today with insistent phone calls from Rajwin reminding us that we had a movie plans with them today, which Jason and I totally didn't recall making. After which, Jason and I decided to battle 1.5hr city traffic to get to Lido to meet up with Rajwin, Lutfiah and Shalini... a journey which usually takes us just a little more than 15 minutes.

Why must everyone go to town on a public holiday??? Aren't the heartlands well-developed enough? No, everyone had to clamour around looking at Christmas lights which, if you ask me, look pretty much the same year after year. And if your brain even starts ticking to think that since I go to town too, I shouldn't be whining about the rest of them... Well, good point.

But remember, since Rajwin invited us... HE chose the location. And RAJWIN, why TOWN on a public holiday??? Aren't the heartlands well-developed enough...?

The movie starts at 4.25... we got to lido at 4pm. Surprise, surprise.. No parking lots are available. So Jason and I decided to park along one of the walls, seeing that everyone else did that. We met up with Rajwin outside the theatre at exactly 4.26pm. Well, it just goes to show.. that sometimes, BREAKING THE RULES IS NECESSARY OK.

Oh, another surprise... Rajwin, Lutfiah and Shalini chose the movie:
Ok, Surprise.. because, with the exception of Jason being able to say "man-tou" (he asked me that's that bun we eat with chilli crabs and then he got really amused with the pronounciation)and "wo ai ni" and Rajwin being able to sing a few phrases of hokkien songs.. And maybe Lutfiah and Shalini may have some mandarin swear words and certain greetings existing in their vocabulary... I really did not expect my multiracial group of friends to pick a CHINESE MOVIE!

By the way, as I was musing over that fact in the cinema, I realized that
we were a really diverse group... Raj and Sha being indians, Lut being
malay, Jason being eurasian, and me being chinese... OK, at least it says
so on our I/Cs... so based on that I/C aspect... we officially represent the 4
major racial groups in Singapore.

Back to the movie... IT KICKED BUTT!!! ROCKED TO THE MAX!! PLEASE WATCH IT OR YOU WILL REGRET AND WHEN YOU GO BACK TO SCHOOL NEXT YEAR, COZ ALL YOUR FRIENDS WILL BE TALKING ABOUT IT AND YOU WILL SEEM LIKE A LOSER COZ YOU'RE ALL LEFT OUT.

Speaking of kicking butts... Our dance performance last night at LIDO was a HIT! Everyone loved it, although during the stunts when Jason had Rajwin on his shoulders and was spinning Rajwin around at top speed, Aunt Viro (Raj's mom) grabbed me and turned a shade paler.

But overall... the guys did the banghra exceptionally well! Better than I ever seen them rehearsing.. The ladies dance had a little mistake, but it was so coordinated (as in, instead of 4 of us doing the exact same action, 2 were doing one, and another 2 did another.. so it had an ALTERNATED look thingy) that it looked perfect.

At Pastor Pritam's house dressing up for the performance.. This is Pastor's 3 year old daughter - Sujaan.. isn't she adorable? I did both our make-ups! She's the cutest, by the way.. she kept bugging me to do her make-up, and she pronounces my name "bweeenah". (Her face doesn't actually look like that, though. Pastor told her, "put lipstick cannot close mouth" so she's actually wincing in the picture. She's really alot prettier in person).

The other girls in the dance. That's Sudah on the left, she's actually nepalese + tamil... she's really preeettyyy. Michelle's on the right and she's the sweeeeeeeeeteeesst girl I've ever met. She's so nice and sweeeeeeeeet. Can't emphasize it enough, man. Haha. She cheorographed our entire dance, by the way. Really talented! She has the voice of an angel too.

The South Asian Connection dance troop!! Us girls with the banghra boys. We'll be dancing this sunday @ church and 2 times in January.. once for a wedding, and another for a major Assembly of Gods meeting @ either expo or suntec convention hall. I really hope that all of us have the time to rehearse and perform when the new year begins!

Of course, how can I resist grabbing my man for a picture? Do we look like an indian couple? Haha.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR COMING!!!

Gwen: Really surprised to see you there! Didn't expect you
to actually come and support us! I really truly appreciate it + plus
the cookie you gave me.. You're the sweetest!

Vi, Han, Prav, Sha & Lut: What can I say? You guys have always
been there... Glad you all could make it down to support Raj, Jason and I!!
Truly the bestfriends anyone could ever ask for... It was alot less
nerve-wrecking to see your faces in the crowd. Love you all!!

the Going's Good, but God is Great!

Things I'm thankful for:

1. Exams are finally over!!! (yeap, i'm mighty thankful)

2. Christmas is coming... Yippeee!!!

3. I have the best boyfriend ever...

this is why:
I was shopping with mommy one day and I saw a pair of shoes that I totally loved. It was only going for $25!!! Only they didn't have it in my size... OBVIOUSLY, since people with sized 6 feet always have great taste. So I whined to Jason about it for 20 mins, shaking him from his sleep that night. He finally agreed to go look for that pair in my size with me the next day.

The next day, Jason took me to Orchard Road and told me to go look for that pair of shoes. Well... actually here's how it went:

Jason (almost sitting down on a shoe-trying stool): Ok, go look for that pair of shoes. When you find it, call me and I'll pay.. I'll wait right here. Take your time, honey.
Me (very systematically ignoring him): Ok, we need to split up. You go look over there, I will look over the other side.
Jason: uh, what does it look like?
Me: Silver 3.5inch pumps.
Jason (picking up a weird looking leather wedge): Like this?
Me: No, honey. That's a wedge.
Jason: Ok, I forgot. What's a pump again?
Me: Covered shoes.. like your men's shoes.. but like, in heels.
Jason: Ok, got it.

After running around the shoes section @ Isetan, Wisma looking flustered for about 10 minutes, I was about to fling my heels at Jason when he trotted over to me holding a pair of GETAI sequin shiny silvery slinky heels (but I reminded myself that he was paying for my heels and that noone is perfect). I politely picked up the nearest pair of pumps and told him through gritted teeth, "honey.. that's not right.. THIS IS A PUMP, ok?"

Naturally, I couldn't find my shoes... Naturally, I saw tons of other shoes that I fell in love with immediately... Naturally, they all costed way more than $25. Looking devastated, I told him to forget it and let's just go before I burst into uncontrollable tears. He suggested going to Takashimaya to try our luck.

After walking the walk to Takashimaya from Wisma, Jason got tired and as soon as we entered the Taka department store, he grabbed the nearest pair of shoes that looked remotely like a pump and told me "See? Isn't this pretty? I'll buy this for you and then we'll go home, ok?" And proceeded to be the best salesman of the year, trying to convince me to abandon my pursuit of the silver pumps.

Lucky for me, he pick up a GUESS silver leather 4inch pumps. And as soon as he saw my eyes lit up, he turned the shoes over the check out the price - $256. "WHAT THE HELL?!! WHY WOULD ANY WOMAN PAY $256 FOR A PAIR OF SHOES?!!! IT'S NOT EVEN VERY NICE." Salesman of the year turned really critical shoe critic at that instant.

We then proceeded to search for my shoes, but of course, the shoes there were more expensive than at Isetan. Disappointed, I led him out of the place lost in my own thoughts, occasionally distracted by some really pretty shoes. When we were at the end of the store, he suddenly turned around and led me back and said "Ok, anything you like that costs below $90, I'll buy for you." I excitedly ran back into the store and picked up pairs of shoes and tried them on, but sadly none are really as pretty as the ones I had in mind.

I told Jason to forget it and that all the shoes below $90 aren't really that pretty. He mumbled a, "boy, you have expensive taste" and then told me that he'll raise the budget to $100. After prancing around another time I was ready to leave that place AGAIN. Before he places another bid, I dragged him out and he said we'll try Paragon.

God bless Paragon! I saw a pair that looked pretty much like the one I wanted! going for only $39.90! After checking out the price, Jason breathed a sigh of relief, but (God bless his manly soul) kept true to his word of the budget and told me to "choose another pair"... So I got 2 pairs of shoes in the end instead of 1!!!

4. I have the best mommy!!!

this is why:

Belated birthday present from mommy: Guess watch - $265
Lunch with mommy @ FishMarket, Parkway: My FAVORITE SUSHI!!!

5. Jason was with me @ zoukout...

this is why:

We all drank in the car on the way to sentosa and everyone was pissed drunk (except of Jason of course, being the responsible boyfriend). Everyone got dispersed and Jason spent the entire night taking care of me and calling all of my friends trying to get everyone together. He was so busy taking care of me that he didn't even get to meet up with his friends in the end!

Most of the time he was just leading me around, asking me if I'm having fun, telling me not to let go of his hand, and of course buying me lots of food and water.

Considering that it was Zoukout and it was really crowded, we didn't really get to meet up with my friends until much later. So it was just the 2 of us + with me being really drunk = totally no fun for Jason. But he kept smiling at me and trying to make me laugh so I wont be bored. At one point, he even pulled out my handphone and snapped pictures of us...

Totally Jason's photography skills @ Camwhoring since I was too drunk:

It's s0 sweet that he does something which he totally hates... just because he knows that I would want to have pictures of that night which was totally no fun, but couldn't have been any better.

6. Our Church's Christmas performance is shaping up really well. (Catch Me, Jason, and our church friends in action @ CK Tangs - outside Orchard MRT, on the 19th of December 2007, 8-9pm!)

7. Violet's exams end this Wednesday.

8. All these blessing from God are upon me!
