Feeding time at the zoo.

On Monday, we decided go on an off-road adventure - in search of a certain species of rare monkeys. We drove down to this really deserted road somewhere in the Seletar airbase (is it?) and lo-and-behold, found a quaint little eatery in the middle of nowhere.

Rather nice kampong style restaurant and I guess the most interesting thing about the place is how underdeveloped it is. Haha. I literally had to drive through grass and mud just to get there. Even the toilets were... uhm, different.

The moment we arrived at the destination after a long drive, the boys just had to go look for a toilet... and yes, that was our first glimpse of the monkeys.

I spy with my little eye....
Oooh, there's 2 of them!

The urinal's kinda cool huh. So old-school style. I've never actually seen a urinal like that in my life. Notice the flushing system at the top just above one of the monkey's head. I wonder how it works. Oh, I realize that I'm still wonderin now coz I've never actually seen anyone flushing. Which means the monkeys haven't learnt to flush yet.......

Ok, it's feeding time at the zoo.... so, meet the monkeys!

Careful now, please refrain from scaring these endangered species as they feed on their meal. These creatures are extremely shy so we have to approach silently and slowly as we observe them eating.

Their diet consists mainly of...
Pork ribs
Mini beef burgers
Chilli corn carne

And Chicken wings.

You will notice that the chicken wings are labelled by levels of spiciness. This is how this breed of monkeys vie for alpha-male status in the pack. The more chicken wings of a higher level a certain monkey can digest, the more he may boast of his masculinity and bravery among the other male monkeys. We are really fortunate today that we are able to witness this rare ritual.

Looks like a winner has emerged. The right most monkey may now relax under the moonlight as his opponents squirm and die from the heat of the chicken wings. But his leadership will not last, for soon the alpha-male position will be challenged.

Till then, he shall bask in his hard-earned glory.

It was a truly amazing experience!!!

In case u all were wondering, I died at level 2... and the boys didn't even manage to finish the plate of level 5 wings =)
